Top 8 Money-Saving Apps: There are several money-saving apps available in the app store to help you keep track of your budget and your spending habits. Here’s a list of some of the best money-saving apps available now in 2022.
Top 8 Money-Saving Apps 2022
These apps are simple, easy to use, and can make all the difference when it comes to saving money on necessities and fun stuff alike! For most of us, managing our personal finances can be tough. Between recurring bills and unknown expenses, we’re forced to constantly keep an eye on how much money is in our bank accounts.
Thankfully, there are some great apps out there that will help you manage your funds and track where your money goes. In fact, many of these apps are specifically geared toward helping you save as much money as possible—saving for a rainy day or for something more specific like a vacation. If you’re ready to take control of your finances but don’t know where to start, check out these eight money-saving apps
Personal finance tool Mint is a terrific way to get your finances in order, but it’s not for everyone. The app connects to more than 5,000 financial institutions and lets you categorize your income and expenses easily. You can also set up multiple accounts if you want to keep track of more than one budget and change your spending limits as needed.
The coolest part? It sends you alerts when you exceed that limit or go over your spending goals in certain categories. If you have trouble sticking to a budget, give Mint a try. You might be surprised at how much money you save. (Free; iOS and Android)
Acorns are all about saving money. It does that by rounding up purchases to the nearest dollar, investing in your spare change, and linking a debit card or credit card for automatic investments into a portfolio based on your risk tolerance. There are no management fees or account minimums, and you can withdraw funds at any time. Since it’s an investment app, not a savings one, you won’t find budgeting tools.
But if saving is more important to you than earning interest (which could be as low as 0 percent), then Acorns may work well for you. The most basic plan starts at $1 per month. Averaging around 1.25 percent over its lifetime, Acorns earns high marks from users but lags behind our top pick when it comes to managing cash flow. Note: Some of these apps aren’t available everywhere, so make sure you read through all their features before deciding which one to download.
As always with personal finance apps, read the fine print before signing up for anything!
After downloading your new favorite app and using it for a few weeks: How did you like using [name of app]? What do you think makes [name of app] better than other similar apps? Are there things that need improvement? Have others used [name of app] with success? Did they have trouble along the way?
3) Personal Capital
Expensify automatically uploads your receipts and claims reimbursements as you shop. It makes expense reports faster and easier while helping your company stay within legal guidelines. Expensify syncs across multiple devices, so you can get on with life instead of digging through stacks of receipts and filing paperwork. The app also integrates with Slack for a more seamless expense report experience.
The best part? Expensify is free for individuals, making it one of our top money-saving apps in 2022. (You’ll still need to pay for an upgraded account if you want access to additional features.) A step up from Expensify is Personal Capital, which helps users track their investments, too.
The tool shows users how much they’re spending at Starbucks or Whole Foods every month—and how much they could save by shopping elsewhere. This kind of insight helps people make better financial decisions and grow their wealth over time. That’s why we put Personal Capital on our list of top money-saving apps in 2022.
Filing an expense report with a paper receipt is old news. Expensify offers businesses, teams, and individuals a way to take pictures of receipts on their phones so they can focus on more important things. Think of it as TurboTax for your receipts. For example, if you’re searching for a way to increase productivity in your company (and want to go green in the process), you could give all employees phones that double as scanners and use Expensify to help those folks keep track of how much they spend on travel.
Marketing or employee training by taking photos when necessary. Expensify also integrates with your existing accounting software so you don’t have to manually enter any data. And did we mention that Expensify is free? There are premium features available for $4 per month per user, but you really only need to upgrade if you need to scan more than 100 receipts per month. If not, stick with the free version—it’s good enough for most small businesses.
5) Never late
Mvelopes is one of my favorite apps and it’s also one of my favorite ways to save money. The app helps you track your spending, set goals, and manage your budget. There are a number of additional features including a helpful spend analysis tool that shows where your money goes each month.
I highly recommend Mvelopes for anyone who is looking to get a better handle on their finances or who wants help with saving more money. This one’s definitely worth checking out! If you want to give it a try, there’s a free 30-day trial available. You can learn more about Mvelopes here.
With Digit, you link your checking account and every time you have the money go into your account (either from a paycheck or deposited from a bank), Digit rounds it up to the nearest dollar and saves it for you. It’s basically free money! When I started using Digit two years ago, I was shocked at how quickly it saved me thousands of dollars. They’ve even helped pay off my student loans.
If that doesn’t convince you to try them out, I don’t know what will! You can save more with their referral code: DIGIT99999 at signup. $5 per month for their pro service. $10 per month for their premium service. There is also an app available on Android and iOS. The app allows you to see how much you’re saving each day/week/month, along with allowing you to make deposits by taking a picture of your checkbook or cash deposit slip. Both services are free.
7) Less Accounting
Mvelopes is a budgeting app that helps you keep your spending in check and your finances in order. Mvelopes track spending habits and suggest ways to save money, but it goes beyond just tracking finances: It uses techniques like envelope budgeting to help manage to spend, building on existing methods that people have been using for years.
The app’s goal is to help you find some fiscal sanity and feel better about how you’re handling money—and if you’re looking for a way to get back on track with budgeting, it’s definitely worth trying out. Mvelopes costs $10 per month or $60 per year, though students can use them free of charge. (Read our full review.)
Do you use a budget? Mvelopes help you automatically set aside money for specific expenses. An intuitive, accessible app that is sure to help you keep track of your spending—and stick to your budget. The automatic monthly transfers make sticking to your budget a breeze, while email notifications keep you up-to-date on how much cash you have left in your envelopes.
Plus, as with all personal finance apps, Mvelopes gives you access to historical data and reports so that it’s easy to see where your money has been going and where it might be going in future months. To download: search Mvelopes in iTunes or Google Play Store; compatible with iOS 7 and above (Android) phones. Free trial available before purchase. Subscription options range from $4.99/month to $9.99/month depending on the payment method chosen after the free trial period ends.
