Find out what you can sell to make money. This article has a list of items that you can sell to make extra income.
What Can I Sell to Make Money: If you’re looking to make money as quickly as possible, you can start by selling something! Here are eight things you can sell right now to help you get cash in your hands sooner than later.
What Can I Sell to Make Money?
You probably already have these items lying around your house, so it won’t cost you anything extra!
1) Clothing
If you love fashion or are just in need of some new threads, consider selling your used clothing and shoes on eBay. For newbies, that means you list your items and then eBay buyers bid on them. The seller who ends up with their item wins and gets paid (you’ll get a cut of those proceeds). When selling unwanted clothes, keep an eye out for defects like tears or discoloration before you post them.
You may want to try your hand at selling an unworn item: Take an old tee shirt or pair of jeans, list it as new, and show off its brand-new condition by modeling it in a photoshoot. Or, if you have enough clothes to fill a suitcase—say from a business trip—try taking pre-orders on eBay.
Post your photos along with measurements, care instructions, and any other relevant details. Then pack everything up and ship it out when someone buys one of your pieces. It’s also worth checking sites like ThredUp and Tradesy if you’re looking for more ways to sell clothing online.
2) Books
There’s an old adage that goes something like If you want to make a million dollars, start with two million. This advice makes sense because when it comes to making money on books, you don’t want to go into debt. When publishing your book, be sure that all of your costs (including ISBN and EAN codes) are accounted for ahead of time.
As far as production goes, keep in mind that some retailers require a minimum number of pages (usually around 50). You can increase your profit margin by charging more per book—but if you’re not careful and overprice your product, people will shy away from buying it. The best way to get started is to look at other self-published books at your niche and price yours competitively.
For example, if most ebooks sell for $2.99, consider pricing yours at $3.99 or even $4.99 (depending on how much content is included). To learn more about selling ebooks online check out my free ebook: The Ultimate Guide To Selling Your Own Ebook Online (it’s free)
3) Baby items
People don’t want their kids walking around in t-shirts and socks for long, especially when it’s cold out. They need warm hats, hoodies, pajamas, and jackets. People also don’t always want to spend a lot of money on clothes for their kids or they might not be willing to take them shopping because they hate going through malls or crowds of people. You can sell baby clothes online with one website dedicated just to baby clothes.
If you buy bundles of clothing from places like Goodwill and resell them on Etsy then you can turn a profit from items that otherwise would have gone into a landfill somewhere. Many thrift stores sell their goods online as well.
This is something anyone can do part-time as there are so many sources for cheap used baby clothes. It doesn’t matter if you live in an urban area or rural area; people everywhere will pay good money for quality used baby clothes so find a source and get started today!
4) Electronics
One of my favorite ways to make extra money is by selling old electronics. From laptops and cell phones to toys and game consoles, you can find valuable items in your house that can be sold for a decent price. If you’re like me though, most electronics have sentimental value so selling them is hard. If your heart isn’t set on it being sold as-is then there are some awesome sites out there that will help you sell anything electronic!
Check out Decluttr or Glyde they make sure you get top dollar for your gear while also helping people in need. To me, it’s just a win-win! Here are some other ways to make money with used electronics. I had a friend who was in desperate need of an iPad but didn’t want to pay full price. So he searched around online and found someone who was selling their iPad 2 (that was still in great condition) for $200 less than the retail cost.
He jumped at it because he knew he could easily resell it and turn a profit himself. In general, if you’re going to buy something new anyway (even if you plan on using it), see if there’s an older model available that would be cheaper – You might save yourself some cash AND earn some profit from selling it later down the road when you’re done with it!
5) Toys and games
If you’re a gamer or love giving toys as gifts, it’s easy to start collecting some that you no longer need. Check sites like eBay and Craigslist for new and used toys, as well as video games. You can also get store credit at stores like GameStop by trading in unwanted games and accessories. No matter where you choose to sell your old gaming items, it’s best to wipe them clean of any personal information first, especially if they contain credit card data.
If a friend or family member is willing, bring along your old items for them to run home on their own computer when you decide what things are worth before heading out with cash in hand. Or check online forums to see if there’s anyone who might be interested in buying them from you. Just remember: I got these games secondhand so they may have viruses! is not an effective sales pitch.
You could always rent out your extra space: Rental properties are one of the biggest ways people make money on Airbnb. If you have a spare bedroom, an empty garage, or any other unused space, you can find a renter for it through Airbnb. Listing something on Airbnb is super easy — here’s a step-by-step guide to getting started with hosting.
Once it’s listed, all you have to do is wait for people to book your place and deliver their payment via PayPal (or Venmo or check-in cash). It’s that simple! When selling items online, there are two main things you need to know about taxes: 1) How much tax will I owe? 2) How do I pay for it?
6) Video games
GameStop is one of many sites that will pay you cash or an equivalent trade-in value for your old video games. In addition, some brands like Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo have trade-in programs where you can get store credit or a gift card in exchange for your used game system. You’ll want to carefully read through any rules and regulations, but there are some moneymaking options out there for gamers who don’t mind a little hard work. Just be careful not to spend more than you should!
Video games aren’t going anywhere anytime soon—they may even appreciate in value as time goes on—so it might be worth it to hang onto them if you know you’re going to play them again someday. But, of course, do what works best for you. If nothing else, selling back those old games can give you a quick $50 to put toward a new title when they come out next month.
7) Furniture
Furniture is often overlooked as a way to make money. If you are skilled with woodworking or electrics, furniture restoration could be lucrative. If you can restore vintage furniture, you could find plenty of buyers on Craigslist, Etsy, and Instagram. Even local craft fairs and flea markets will pay a decent amount for restored antique furniture pieces. You’ll have to put in some legwork, but it’s possible that you could start your own business doing what you love.
Check out these tips from Entrepreneur on how to get started. E-Books: There’s no denying that e-books are convenient. But more than convenience, they also give authors more freedom in pricing. While most paperbacks cost between $10 and $20, an e-book can be priced anywhere between $0.99 and $200!
As an author, you set your price based on what works best for you (and gives you good profit margins). Once again, Amazon is king when it comes to book sales – not only do they host a large number of titles but they also process payments through their already existing platform.
8) Musical instruments
Did you know that there’s a huge market for used musical instruments on sites like eBay and Craigslist? You don’t need a brand new guitar or piano to sell, but you might be surprised at how much money is in them. Plus, buying used means more options for buyers; many vintage instruments sell for close to (or above) retail prices.
As an added bonus, selling your old gear can provide extra space in your home. Many musicians are willing to pay cash for guitars, basses, drums, and other items they use regularly—and who doesn’t want some extra cash lying around?
